Microsoft 365 Backup

There’s a convergence in the market towards using the collaboration tools within Microsoft 365, such as OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams etc.  More and more data is being held in the collaboration tools, relinquishing such a reliance on infrastructure systems such as servers.

One drawback of such convergence is the protection and retention of data. As inherently, Microsoft doesn’t often offer indefinite retention periods on data dependant on your Microsoft 365 plan. In some cases, data has a maximum retention of thirty days before it is lost forever.

Some reasons to backup your Microsoft 365

Human
Error

Employees can unintentionally delete or modify important files or emails and surpass the retention period unaware. With a backup, organisations can easily recover the lost or modified data without any disruption to their operations.

Corruption or Fault

Hardware and software faults can happen causing loss of data, a backup of your Microsoft 365 data will minimise the consequences in such circumstance, by restoring from backup.

Compliance

Many industries have specific compliance and legal requirements for data retention and protection. By backing up Microsoft 365 data, businesses can ensure they meet these obligations and avoid potential penalties or legal issues.

Ransomware

Similar to a traditional ransomware attack on a server environment but slowly administered. Threat actors will copy then delete small amounts of data over a longer period of time. Waiting for retention periods to pass before holding an organisation to ransomware for their vital data that has been deleted.
