Wireless

Wireless technology is a core part of the EquiTech offering, whether an organisation is looking to build from scratch, optimise or refresh their wireless infrastructure. We get involved in a vast range of wireless projects, from the elementary small office setup, up to large scale factories and warehouses that require more intricate design and management. Here are some of the areas we help with:

Design

If an organisation is building a wireless solution from scratch, or refreshing their environment, the design stage is critical. It is paramount that the wireless technology provides sufficient coverage and has the capacity to work for now and for future growth. This image outlines but a few of the designs we have worked on, from the more flagship large scale factories to simplistic office designs.

Overcrowding and/or Interference

Within many environments that we audit we see wireless performance is being hindered by:

  • Overcrowding - Where there are too many devices connected to the wireless network simultaneously. This can cause congestion and slow down the internet speed for all operations.

  • Interference - Many things can cause wireless interference. Often it's caused from competing Wireless Access Points (WAPs) misconfigured onto conflicting channels, or even when an environment has too many WAPs installed in too small an area.

When we encounter either of these issues in an environment, we revert back to basics. By conducting either a

  • Thorough redesign and comparing this to what is in situ

  • Comprehensive wireless audit

This should allow us to identify the root cause of performance issues and resolve them.

Optimisation

Optimising a Wireless network is important also. Often organisations have invested significant amounts of money into providing a seamless wireless network, all for it to be used ineffectively.

Typical causes for inefficiency are:

  • Lack of Workload Prioritisation - Allowing for wireless demands to all compete without prioritisation or traffic segregation.

  • Shadow IT/Misuse - Personal use of wireless such as video and music streaming  dominating the wireless network.

  • Wider Network Issues - Including networking and cabling issues, internet, power etc

We have a range of methods to help optimise a wireless network. A detailed analysis of performance through a wireless audit will help us understand where an wireless network can be utilised more effectively.
